How do I…
A client never asks for a screen. He asks for an outcome, and he describes it as a problem. "A man comes to whichever shift he comes to." "This allowance should stop when he goes on long leave." "Tell me what he is owed, he is leaving on the fifteenth."
Each page below is one of those sentences. It names the outcome being asked for, lists the screens that must already be filled, then walks the configuration step by step with the values to type. Every page ends with how to prove it worked, because a change nobody verified is a change nobody can defend.
Where two clients would configure the same situation differently, the page shows both side by side.
Shifts and attendance
Shifts
We have two shifts and a man comes to whichever one he comes to
Nobody is tied to a shift. At month end, count how many times he came on A and how many on B.
Shifts
I will bind one man to A and another to B, and a change needs an approval
The opposite client. The shift is a property of the man, and moving him is a request somebody signs.
Working week
The factory works six days and the office works five
Two working weeks in one company, and which screen carries the difference.
Holidays
A public holiday has been declared and the roster is already made
What to change, what to leave, and what you must not rebuild.
Corrections
A punch was wrong and I have already made the payroll attendance
The order of undoing and redoing. Get it wrong and the screen refuses you.
Leave
- A man wants his leave balance paid out in cash - leave encashment, the rate it is paid at and the divisor that turns a month into a day.
- An allowance must stop when a man goes on long leave - the attendance allowance, and the fact that it is all or nothing.
Pay
- Overtime worked on a holiday must pay a different rate
- Set up a provident fund from nothing - the full walk, two wage types first.
- An amount must print on the payslip but not be deducted - the employer cost case.
- A bonus is paid once, in one month only
- A loan installment must skip one month
- A man's salary is held while an inquiry runs
Joiners and leavers
- A man joins on the fifteenth - every module in order, and what is automatic at each step.
- A man resigns on the fifteenth - resignation, clearance, final settlement, and what you still have to type.
Appraisal
- Managers and the shop floor need different weightings
- Targets now, achievement later, in one half
- Raise everybody after the appraisal - and what the increment matrix does not yet do.
Starting a new client
- The first payroll run at a new client - the dry run that proves the configuration before anybody is paid.
- Add a second legal entity to a live installation - what is shared, what has to be built again.
