Roaster
Do not use this screen. It has been superseded by Shift Roster and nothing in PeopleNest reads what is entered here. The page exists so that a client who finds the screen in the menu gets a straight answer about it.
What it is for
It is not for anything any more.
The screen records one employee against a working calendar for a date range. It has no logic behind it, nothing calculates from it, and the two things a client would expect it to decide are decided elsewhere. The calendar an employee is judged against comes from his Employee Policy Profile. The shift he is due on comes from the Shift Roster.
A client will ask about it because the name is so close to Shift Roster. The answer is short: Shift Roster is the live screen, this one is left over, and anything entered here has no effect at all. Do not offer it as an alternative place to record something, because a note nothing reads is worse than no note.
Every field, in plain words
| Field | What it means | What to put in it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Employee | The person the record is about. | Nothing. The screen is superseded. | One record per person. |
| Calendar | A working calendar named against them. | Nothing | It does not change how the person's attendance is judged. |
| Date From | The first date of the period. | Nothing | |
| Date To | The last date of the period. | Nothing | |
| Period | A label on the record. | Nothing | Its meaning could not be established. Nothing fills it and nothing reads it. |
| Notes | A free note. | Nothing |
How to configure it
- Do not configure it.
- To give people their shifts, use Shift Roster.
- To change the working calendar a person is judged against, change it on his Employee Policy Profile.
Scenarios
"What is this screen for? It has almost the same name as the other one"
It is an old screen that Shift Roster replaced. Nothing reads it. Tell the client to ignore it, and if they want it off the menu, that is a rights change rather than a configuration one.
"Put this man on the factory calendar for two months"
Change the calendar on his Employee Policy Profile for the period and change it back afterwards. Entering it here does nothing.
What it is connected to
- Shift Roster is the screen that replaced it and the one to use.
- The Employee Policy Profile is what actually decides an employee's working calendar.
- Nothing else reads this screen, in Time Management or anywhere else.
If something looks wrong
- "I entered a period here and nothing changed" - correct. Nothing reads this screen. Use Shift Roster for shifts and the Employee Policy Profile for the calendar.
- "It will not let me add a second period for the same man" - one record per employee, and in any case the record has no effect.
