Performance Unit
A performance unit is what a target is counted in. Percent, tonnes, days, rupees, pieces per shift. You list the client's units here once, and every measure then picks one.
What it is for
A target of 2.5 means nothing on its own. 2.5 percent rejection and 2.5 tonnes a shift are different conversations. The unit is what makes the number readable on the appraisal form and in every report after it.
This is a short list and it belongs to the client, not to the module. Twelve units covers most manufacturing companies. A measure scored on target has to have one, which is the only rule worth remembering.
Every field, in plain words
| Field | What it means | What to put in it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Performance Unit | The short code for the unit | PCT | Required |
| Name | The unit as it should read on the form | Percent | Required. Write it the way the client says it, because the employee reads this beside his target |
How to configure it
- Open the screen and add one record per unit the client's targets are counted in.
- For a 500 person manufacturing company that is usually: PCT Percent, TON Tonnes, KG Kilograms, PCS Pieces, DAY Days, HRS Hours, PKR Rupees, NUM Number, PPS Pieces Per Shift, RATIO Ratio.
- Save each one. There is nothing else to set.
- Go to Evaluation Metric and pick the right unit on every measure scored against a target.
Scenarios
"Our rejection target is a percentage but our output target is tonnes"
Two units, two measures. Rejection rate carries Percent, output per shift carries Tonnes, and both sit on the same appraisal form reading correctly.
What it is connected to
- Evaluation Metric names a unit, and a measure scored against a target must have one.
- Employee Goal shows the unit beside the target and the achievement on the employee's sheet.
If something looks wrong
- "A measure will not save and asks for a unit" - the measure is scored against a target, so it needs a unit. Add the unit here first, then pick it on the measure.
- "The target on the appraisal form reads oddly" - the unit's name is what is printed. Correct the name here and it corrects everywhere.
