Business Area Dimension
This is the mapping screen. Business Area and Business Unit are only lists of names until something joins them, and this is that something: one line per legal entity, business area and business unit.
What it is for
A group reports above the business unit, and the grouping is not the same in every company. In the manufacturing company the mill business unit belongs to Textiles; in the trading company a business unit of the same name might belong to Trading. A single list cannot express that, which is why the mapping carries the legal entity on every line.
The record is kept per client, so the whole group's mapping is one document, and you read down it to see how the group is organised.
Build it once at implementation, and come back to it whenever the client adds a division. A business unit with no line here is not inside any business area, and will drop out of any report that groups by one.
Every field, in plain words
Header
| Field | What it means | What to put in it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Client | The group the mapping belongs to. | ABS | Required. One mapping document per client. |
Business Area
One line per combination.
| Field | What it means | What to put in it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legal Entity | The company the line applies to. | 01 | Required. The same business unit can map differently in another company. |
| Business Area | The reporting area. | TEX | Required. Pick it from the list. |
| Business Unit | The division being mapped into that area. | 01 | Required. Pick it from the list. |
How to configure it
- Make sure every Legal Entity, Business Area and Business Unit exists first. Nothing can be picked here that has not been created.
- Open Business Area Dimension and pick the Client.
- Add a line for each division in each company: Legal Entity
01, Business AreaTEX, Business Unit01. - Work through every business unit in every legal entity. A business unit left out is outside every business area.
- Save.
Scenarios
One division serves two companies
It cannot, as one business unit cannot sit in two legal entities at once. Give each company its own business unit and map both of them to the same business area. The report then adds them together, which is what the client wanted.
What it is connected to
- Legal Entity, Business Area and Business Unit must all exist first.
- Reports that group above the business unit read this mapping.
- Functional Area Dimension is the same idea for departments.
If something looks wrong
- "A division is missing from the business area total" - it has no line here. Add one.
- "I cannot pick a business unit" - it is blocked on Business Unit, or it has not been created yet.
