Calender Date Template

A date template is a run of date ranges for one calendar, each range naming the working times that apply across it. It is the same idea as the Calendar's own working time lines, kept as a separate named template so a whole year's worth of date ranges can be prepared in one place and in strict order.

What it is for

Most implementations do not need this screen. The working times for a year are entered directly on the Calendar, and that is enough.

It earns its place where a client's year is made of many short spans rather than one long one - a seasonal operation, or a company that changes hours several times a year. Entering twenty ranges into the calendar grid one at a time invites a gap or an overlap. The date template is built for that: the lines must be in ascending date order, and each range must end after it begins, so the shape of the year is checked as you type it.

One template belongs to one calendar.

Basic Data

One line per span of dates, entered in order.

FieldWhat it meansWhat to put in itNotes
Line #The line number.Fills itself
Date FromThe day the span opens.01/01/2026Must be later than the Date From of the line above. The screen refuses a line that goes backwards and names it.
Date ToThe day the span closes.17/02/2026Must be later than Date From on the same line.
Time TemplateThe working times across the span.TT-0001Pick it from the list, which shows templates that are ready and not blocked.

How to configure it

  1. Create the Calendar and the Time Templates first.
  2. Open Calender Date Template, enter the code and name, and pick the Calendar.
  3. Add the spans from the start of the year downwards, in date order. Line one 01/01/2026 to 17/02/2026 on TT-0001, line two 18/02/2026 to 19/03/2026 on RAMZAN, line three 20/03/2026 to 31/12/2026 back on TT-0001.
  4. Check the last line closes on the last day of the year. A day the template does not cover is a day with no working times.
  5. Save.

Scenarios

Our year changes hours five times

This is the case the screen is for. Enter the five spans in order and let the screen check that each one starts after the last and ends after it begins.

We only have one set of hours all year

Use the Calendar's own working time grid and skip this screen. One line does not need a template.

What it is connected to

  • Calendar is what the template belongs to, and it must exist first.
  • Time Template supplies the working times each line names.

If something looks wrong

  • "It will not save, it says a Date From already exists, change the date" - a line opens on or before the line above it. The lines must run forwards.
  • "It will not save, it says Date To will always be greater than Date From" - a line's dates are the wrong way round.
  • "The calendar I want is not in the list" - it already has a date template. One calendar carries one.
