Public Holiday

The holiday list for a calendar. Eid, 14 August, 25 December and whatever else the client observes, each with its date and name. On a day on this list attendance shows the holiday's name instead of expecting a punch, and nobody is marked absent.

What it is for

A holiday is a day nobody is expected at work and everybody is paid. Without it on this list, the attendance read finds no punch on a day the working times say is a working day, and marks four hundred people absent.

The list belongs to a calendar, not to a company. That is the one thing to get right: the screen is opened by picking a Calendar, and the holidays you enter apply to everybody on that calendar. Two calendars need two holiday lists, which is exactly what a client wants when the office closes for a day the factory works through.

Pakistani holiday dates move. The Eid holidays are announced a few days ahead and the government sometimes adds a day. Come back and add the line when it is announced, before the payroll is run for that period, and the attendance for the day corrects itself.

How to configure it

  1. Create the year's Calendar first.
  2. Open Public Holiday and pick the Calendar.
  3. Enter the fixed holidays first - 23/03/2026 Pakistan Day, 01/05/2026 Labour Day, 14/08/2026 Independence Day, 25/12/2026 Quaid-e-Azam Day.
  4. Add the Eid holidays as separate lines, one per day, using the dates from the government notification.
  5. Save. Then repeat the whole list against the other calendar if the client runs more than one.
  6. When a holiday is announced or extended during the year, come back and add the line before the payroll for that month is run.

Scenarios

The office closes for Eid but the factory works two of the three days

Two calendars, two holiday lists. The office calendar gets all three days, the factory calendar gets one. People sit on whichever calendar matches their site through their Employee Policy Profile.

The government added a day and we have already run attendance

Add the line for the extra day, then let attendance read again for the period. The day changes from an absence to the holiday name. Do it before the payroll is posted and nothing has to be reversed.

A holiday falls on a weekend

Enter it anyway. The day already reads as a weekend and nothing is lost, and the record of the holiday is there for next year's list.

Only the Lahore office gets a local holiday

That needs a separate calendar for the Lahore office, because the holiday list cannot be narrowed to a site within one calendar. If the client has only one local holiday a year it is usually simpler to grant it as an exemption than to split the calendar.

What it is connected to

  • Calendar must exist first, and the holiday list belongs to one.
  • Employee Attendance shows the holiday name on the day instead of expecting a punch.
  • Payroll Attendance pays the day, and where the calendar has the sandwich rule on, a holiday between two absences can itself be charged.
  • A holiday added after attendance has been read is picked up the next time attendance is read for that period.

If something looks wrong

  • "Everybody is absent on Eid" - the holiday is not on the list, or it is on the other calendar.
  • "The factory got the holiday too and should not have" - both sites are on the same calendar. They need separate calendars.
  • "The holiday shows but the name is wrong on the report" - the Name field on the line is what is displayed. Correct it there.
  • "I cannot pick our calendar" - it is blocked. Clear the Block tick on the Calendar.
