What it is for

The city list is the one address screen you will actually use at a Pakistani implementation, because a factory's workforce comes from towns the standard list does not have. Jaranwala, Pattoki, Sahiwal - if the client's staff live there and it is not on the list, their address cannot be completed.

Each city names a province and a country, which is what makes the address fields narrow sensibly as somebody fills them in.

The city carries its own calling code, useful where the client dials landlines.

How to configure it

1. Make sure the Country and the State exist first.
2. Open City and search for the town you need. Most of the large ones are there.
3. To add one, enter the code, the name, the Country and then the State.
4. Fill the Calling Code if the client dials landlines there.
5. Save.

Scenarios

Half the factory workforce lives in towns that are not on the list

Collect the list from the HR officer in one go, before data entry starts, and add them all in one sitting. Adding them one at a time while somebody is trying to enter two hundred employee addresses is what makes a go-live feel slow.

Two towns in different provinces have the same name

Two city records with different codes, each naming its own province. The address narrows by province, so the right one is picked.

What it is connected to

• Country and State must exist first.
• Every address field reads this list, narrowed to the province already picked.
• Employee Address and the address lines on Legal Entity both use it.

If something looks wrong

• "It will not let me delete a city, it says it is predefined" - that is correct.
• "The city list is empty" - no city names the province that was picked. Either add the city or check the province is right.
• "The city I added does not appear" - it names a different province from the one selected on the address.
