This is the mapping screen for departments. A Functional Area is only a name until a line here says which department in which company falls under it.

Legal Entity, Functional Area, Department

What it is for

Departments are per company and the grouping above them is per company too. The Finance department of the manufacturing company and the Finance department of the trading company may well be counted the same way, but the client is entitled to count them differently, so the legal entity is on every line.

The record is kept per client, so the whole group's department grouping is one document.

A department with no line here belongs to no functional area, and drops out of a report that groups by one.

Every field, in plain words

How to configure it

1. Make sure every Legal Entity, Functional Area and Department exists first.
2. Open Functional Area Dimension and pick the Client.
3. Add a line per department per company: Legal Entity 01, Functional Area IND, Department 001 Finance.
4. Work through every department. One left out is outside every functional area.
5. Save.

Scenarios

Production is direct in the mill but support in the trading company

Two lines. Legal entity 01 maps Production to DIR, legal entity 03 maps its Production department to IND. The legal entity on the line is exactly what makes that possible.

What it is connected to

• Legal Entity, Functional Area and Department must all exist first.
• Reports that group above the department read this mapping.
• Business Area Dimension is the same idea for business units.

If something looks wrong

• "A department is missing from the functional area total" - it has no line here.
• "I cannot pick a department" - it is blocked on Department, or it has not been created yet.
