Course Group

A course group is a family of courses: Technical, Safety, Soft Skills, Compliance. It keeps the course list navigable and lets training be reported by family rather than course by course.

What it is for

A training calendar grows to a hundred courses within two years. Grouped, it stays readable and management can be told what was spent on safety training as a whole. Ungrouped, every report is a list.

Keep it to four to eight families, and make them the families the client's training budget is reported in.

Every field, in plain words

How to configure it

  1. Ask how training spend is reported to management. Those headings are your groups.
  2. Create one record each, for example TECH / Technical and Trade, SAFETY / Health and Safety, SOFT / Management and Soft Skills, COMP / Compliance and Statutory.
  3. Save, then create the courses on Course and set the group on each.

Scenario

Management asks every quarter what safety training cost us

Group every safety course under one group here. The quarterly answer becomes a report over the group, which means it is the same answer every time, produced by anybody.

What it is connected to

  • Nothing has to exist before this screen.
  • Course names a group on each course.
  • The training module reads the course, and through it the group, when training is planned and reported. See Training Course.

If something looks wrong

  • "The group list is empty on a course" - no groups have been created, or all of them are blocked.
  • "It will not save, it says the group already exists" - the code is in use and must be unique.
