Screening Type
A screening type is a kind of check you carry out on people: a medical examination, a background verification, a drug test. The type records how often that kind of check comes round, and the individual checks are then listed on Screening.
What it is for
Checks fall into families, and the family is what decides how often the check happens. Medical examinations come round yearly. Background verification happens once, at hiring. A random drug test is monthly. Recording the frequency on the type means it is stated once rather than remembered per check.
It is a four field screen and the setup is quick. Its purpose is to give Screening something to classify against.
Every field, in plain words
Screening Type
| Field | What it means | What to put in it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screening Type | The short code for the kind of check. | MEDICAL | Required. Must be unique. |
| Name | The kind of check written out. | Periodic Medical Examination | Required. Translations are kept per language. |
| Frequency | How often this kind of check comes round. | Y - Yearly | Pick one of the five values below. |
| Frequency Cycle | How many of those periods between one check and the next. | 1 | A frequency of Yearly with a cycle of 1 records an annual check, and a cycle of 2 records a two yearly one. |
Frequency - the period the check repeats on:
DDaily - a check carried out every day, such as a gate search regime.WWeeklyMMonthly - the usual choice for a random testing programme.QQuarterlyYYearly - the usual choice for a periodic medical.
A check that happens once only, such as pre employment verification, has no natural repeat. Set the frequency to the longest period available and treat it as a note on the record, or leave it as the client prefers, since the frequency is recorded here rather than used to schedule anything automatically.
How to configure it
- List the families of check the client carries out. Three or four is typical: medical, background verification, drug and alcohol, security clearance.
- Create each one with a code and a name.
- Set the Frequency and the Frequency Cycle to match how often the client says the check happens.
- Save, then create the individual checks on Screening and classify each under its type.
Scenario
Food handlers need a medical every year and everyone else every two
Two types, both with a frequency of Yearly, one with a cycle of 1 and one with a cycle of 2. The two regimes are then separate records and the difference is written down rather than carried in the safety officer's head.
What it is connected to
- Nothing has to exist before this screen.
- Screening classifies each individual check under a type created here. That is the consumer.
- The frequency is recorded on the type. Nothing schedules the next check from it, so the due date chasing is done with a report and a person.
If something looks wrong
- "The type list is empty on Screening" - no types have been created yet.
- "Nothing reminded us a medical was due" - the frequency is recorded, not scheduled. Build the due list as a report over the screening records.
