Employee Courses
One record per course an employee has been through, with who delivered it and when. Courses the company ran come across from the training module. Courses he took before he joined, or paid for himself, are entered here by hand.
What it is for
The question this screen answers is what training a man has actually had, pulled together in one place regardless of who paid for it. A training manager planning next year's calendar needs it, and so does anybody deciding whether a man is ready for a supervisor's job.
Each record names the course, who delivered it and the dates. The Source Type says where it came from: a company training session, or something external and academic. For a company course there is also the training session it was taken on, which ties the record back to Training Schedule and the attendance that was recorded there.
Courses are the lightest of the three history screens. A course has no expiry, which is what separates it from a certificate, and no level, which is what separates it from a qualification. See Employee Certification and Employee Education.

How to configure it
- Set up Course and Institution first, and group the courses if there are many.
- Open this screen, create a record and pick the employee.
- Set the Source Type. For a company course, pick the Training Schedule session as well.
- Pick the Course and the Institution that delivered it.
- Enter the dates, and note the result in Notes.
- Save, and repeat for each course.
Scenarios
A joiner lists four short courses on his resume
Four records, Source Type External, with the institution and the dates from whatever evidence he has, and a note in each saying what was verified and what was not. An unverified course recorded honestly is more useful than one left out.
Fourteen workers attended the safety refresher the company ran
One record each, Source Type Company Training, pointing at the training session they attended. The session itself and who turned up are held in Training Attendance. These records are the per person history that survives after the session is closed.
A course led to a certificate
Record both. The course here, with its dates, and the certificate on Employee Certification with its validity period. The certificate is the thing that expires and the course is the thing that happened.
What it is connected to
- Course and Course Group define the courses, and Institution the providers.
- Training Schedule and Training Attendance are where a company course is run and attended.
- Training Need is where the gap this record fills was identified.
- Employee Basic Information shows the same records on its courses tab.
If something looks wrong
- "The training schedule list is empty" - the Source Type is set to external, or no sessions have been set up. Only a company course has a session behind it.
- "A course does not show against the man although he attended the session" - training attendance and this history are separate records. The course record has to be created for the history to show it.
- "Dates are the wrong way round" - the end date is before the start. For a one day course put the same date in both.
