Employee Professional Experience

One record per previous employer: the company, the job, the dates, what he earned and the reference who will confirm it. It is the part of a resume that is worth keeping after hiring, because it is what an offer is argued over and what a promotion panel reads two years later.

What it is for

Previous experience decides two things: what the company offers at hiring, and what it believes about a man's seniority afterwards. Both are usually settled in a conversation and then lost. This screen keeps them.

Each record is one employer, with the job, the department, the dates, the gross salary he was on and a named reference with a phone number and an email. The reference fields are the ones that justify the screen existing. Six months after hiring, when somebody wants to know whether the experience was ever verified, the name and the date it was checked are either recorded or they are not.

The job is picked from the company's own position list, not typed. That is deliberate: it makes a man's past job comparable with the jobs the company has, which is the comparison anybody actually wants. Where the previous title has no equivalent, pick the nearest position and write the real title in the employer notes.

How to configure it

  1. Open this screen, create a record and pick the employee.
  2. Enter the employer and pick the Position that matches what he did, from the company's own list.
  3. Enter the period from the experience letter, and the gross salary he was on.
  4. Enter the reference name, phone and email from the letter.
  5. Once the reference has been checked, write what was confirmed and the date in Employer notes. This is the step that gets skipped and the one that matters.
  6. Save, and repeat for each previous employer, most recent first.

Scenarios

A joiner claims four years on ring frames

One record per employer with the exact dates. Four years claimed often turns out to be two employers with a nine month gap between them, which is visible as soon as the dates are entered and invisible while it is a sentence on a resume.

His previous title does not exist in our structure

Pick the nearest position in your own list and write the actual title from the letter in Employer notes. Keeping the position comparable is what lets HR answer whether somebody has done this job before.

The reference never answered the phone

Record that, with the date, in Employer notes. An honest note that the reference could not be reached is worth having. An empty field says nothing and looks like it was verified.

We need to know what he was earning before, at the salary review

It is here, as the gross salary per employer. The current pay is in Salary Structure and the review is in Salary Revision, but the figure from before he joined only ever lives on this screen.

What it is connected to

If something looks wrong

  • "The position list does not have his old job" - it only holds this company's positions. Pick the nearest and put the real title in the notes.
  • "Experience looks longer than the dates allow" - check for gaps between employers. The dates are required on both ends for exactly this reason.
  • "There is no way to tell whether a reference was checked" - nothing records it for you. Put the confirmation and its date in Employer notes as a matter of routine.
