Screening

A screening is one specific check: a chest x-ray, an audiometry test, a reference check with a previous employer, a police verification. You list them here under their type, and recruitment then records the result of each check against an applicant.

What it is for

A medical is not one thing. It is a chest x-ray, a blood test, an eye test and an audiometry test, and the candidate can pass three and fail one. If the medical is recorded as a single pass or fail, the record cannot say what actually happened and the occupational health history is lost.

This screen is the list of individual checks. Each one sits under a Screening Type, so the four checks above are all of type Medical, and Recruitment Applicant Screening then records a result per check per applicant.

Keep each entry to one thing that produces one result. That is the test of whether it belongs on this list.

Every field, in plain words

Screening

FieldWhat it meansWhat to put in itNotes
ScreeningThe short code for the check.XRAY-CHESTRequired. Must be unique.
Screening NameThe check written out as the clinic or the agency calls it.Chest X-RayRequired. Translations are kept per language.
Screening TypeThe family the check belongs to.MEDICAL - Periodic Medical ExaminationPick it from the list. See Screening Type.

How to configure it

  1. Create the families on Screening Type first.
  2. Get the client's pre employment checklist and the panel clinic's medical form. Every line on those two documents that produces its own result is one record here.
  3. Create each check with a code, the name the clinic or agency uses, and its type. For example XRAY-CHEST / Chest X-Ray / MEDICAL, AUDIO / Audiometry / MEDICAL, REF-PREV / Previous Employer Reference / BGV, POLICE / Police Verification / BGV.
  4. Save. Recruitment can then record a result per check against each applicant.

Scenarios

Our welders need an eye test that other staff do not

Create the eye test as its own screening. Which checks apply to which job is decided when the applicant is screened, not here. This screen only has to contain every check that anybody might need.

The medical is done by an outside clinic and comes back as one report

Still list the individual checks, and record each result from the report. The reason is the one the client will discover in two years: when somebody develops hearing loss, the question is what their audiometry showed when they joined. A single pass on one line cannot answer it.

What it is connected to

If something looks wrong

  • "The screening list is empty when screening an applicant" - no screenings have been created yet.
  • "It will not save, it says the screening already exists" - the code is in use and must be unique.
  • "We cannot tell which part of the medical a candidate failed" - the medical was created as one screening rather than one per check. Split it.
